With a romantic ambience in a quaint, intimate setting, Nonna’s Italian restaurant at 63 West Somerset Street in Raritan is one to visit. The soft atmosphere, complete with beautiful, hand painted murals, low lighting and a ceiling draped in fabric is relaxing and enjoyable. Manager Kal Nasr pays attention to the details. Kal himself visits each table to describe a long list of specials, thus giving his diners a warm welcome and personal attention.
Chefs Moe Abdel and Ash Helal create a menu with food they describe as “northern Italian with a French influence.” Stuffed mushrooms with ricotta cheese and fresh spinach in a cream sauce, homemade spinach ravioli in a plum tomato sauce and cioppino are some of the dishes listed on the menu. Specials such as Long Island duck with black currant sauce, salmon crusted pistachio over risotto and chicken with pignoli nuts, prosciutto and spinach with a cognac cream sauce are but a few examples of the selections offered in addition to the regular menu items.
Nonna’s is a winner of the 5-Star American Culinary Excellence Award.
